What or who is Sonnenertrag project? Well luckily I have never been asked that because it is hard to explain. I just liked the name Sonnenertrag, the domain to that name was available and it fits the topic. Well, actually project fits even better than Sonnenertrag. It is a project which will never be finished. It is a project sometimes as confusing as the thoughts in my head. There are 1000 questions and only few answers. Sonnenertrag project is an attempted to change something in our world. Actually it is more an attempted to improve something which always seemed wrong.
I have always been fascinated by the sun and the stars and they went along with me ever since. When I was a little boy I was sitting on a bench in our yard and with a magnifying glass and the help of the sun I burned deep holes in pieces of wood. I was amazed by the power of the sun. Since that day I was thinking about how to use this solar power. The meaning of this new insight was definitely not new for the world, but for me it was a small piece of a whole I was not able to capture by that time. Later on I banished the topic solar energy from my mind. And so – as it seemed - did the rest of the world.
In 2005 I founded Sonnenertrag. Till now it is a solely private project which is financed through publicity and private investments (non profit). Sonnenertrag is my contribution to establish sustainable energy in our hearts and minds.
Since the growing of the topic photovoltaic at the beginning of the 21st century, there has not been any real change in the global concern on solar energy. Well, with the help of the sun there has been heating of some litres of water, cooking several meals with solar stoves and producing several kilowatts of electricity. And if oil and resources would not be scarce and expensive, solar energy still did not interest us. But well, since the Greens set the ball photovoltaic rolling, that little ball initiated an avalanche, which finally extended to the whole world. And we are still at the beginning, at the beginning of a new era – gaining sustainable, decentralized energy from the sun.
In 2004 when I decided to get a photovoltaic plant I had to realize that there were only very few independent web pages on PV. There is for example www.pv-ertraege.de of www.sfv.de. This solar energy supporting association started pretty early to work with PV and tried to help interested people where possible. What I did not like about www.pv-ertraege.de was the fact that there weren’t any details. In my case it ended with the postal code 94 which I think is not enough information in order to be interesting. The idiotic statement that PV is only interesting for people living in the south of Germany is wrong as well as it is not true that wind power is only profitable in the north of Germany.
With the help of our sun-yield data base we could clarify these obscurities and provide lots of new knowledge. Since the European comparison we see that photovoltaic technology is economical in many European countries.
The future of Sonnenertrag project well be to continue the internationalization process. We will not only focus on Europe, but work together with partners (organisations, forums, associations etc.) on conquering the whole world. America, Australia, Canada, Asia and so on should profit from our knowledge and abilities.
Well, ‘partners’ is an important key word. We, the team of Sonnenertrag.eu, will keep on taking care of the basis of our data base. But we are looking for operators of other international data bases.
